GUADELOUPE 



Guadeloupe is one of Islands of the Small Antilles. 
She constitutes a department of besides Sea. 

She/it has a surface of 1 709 km². 
With dependences, she/it represents a population of 386 987 people. 
Inhabitants are called of the Guadeloupéens. 

The Chief Lieu of the department is Basse-Terre. 
Chiefs Lieu of precinct are Pointe-à-Pitre and Marigot. 
She regroups 34 townships. 
The Prefecture of the Region is to Basse-Terre.


Natives called the Karukera island or Calouacaera.   
Guadeloupe comes from the name given by Christopher Columbus to thank Our Lady of Guadalupe of Estremadure of him to have saved a storm.   


Guadeloupe is formed of two islands Bass-earth and Big-earth 
They are delimited by an arm of sea called the Salty river. 


Basse-Terre is most elevated, in spite of her name. 
One finds the volcano of the Soufrière that culminates to 1 467 m there. 
Big Earth hardly passes 100 m. It is a tray. 


Several islands are dependent of Guadeloupe. 
It is islands of the Désirade, of Marie-Galante, of Saint-Bartholomew, of Saints, and Saint-Martin's part.
